AGRI-BUSINESS


This program intends to produce graduate who will upturn agricultural production in Liberia. Food imported to Liberian are results of efficient local agricultural productivity of other Countries. Therefore Liberia must grow her second staple food, grow it more efficiently, and substantially decrease post-harvest losses. This degree program is based on hands-on or practical approach that is intended to stabilize Liberia's food security by educating students to grow agricultural produce not only for subsistance but also for large scale commercial and marketing purposes that can lift them from poverty

An applied agricultural and economics degree will provide graduates with an excellent foundation in applied economic analysis and business management. The focus of their studies will be on the functioning of the agri-food sector and on the economics of decision making within that sector. Through their classes, they will get a strong, big-picture sense of how business works, learn the ins and outs of agricultural practices, and most importantly, discover how the two work together.

Where do AGRI-BUSINESS Graduates Work?


A degree in AGRI-BUSINESS gives graduates the knowledge and skills to manage agricultural businesses, or work in the areas of agricultural sales, food production as Agricultural consultant, Farm manager, Fish farm manager, Plant breeder/geneticist, Rural practice surveyor, Soil scientist, Animal nutritionist, Field trials officer and Forest/woodland manager. Companies that provide employment opportunities for graduates of Applied Agricultural and Economics in Liberia are Golden Verileum, Sime Darby, Equatorial Palm Oil, Forestry Development Authority (FDA) and the Center for Agricultural Research Institute (CARI). Other opportunities exist with commercial ancillary companies both in Liberian and world-wide.

Agribusiness Program is positioned for producing future agribusiness leaders in Liberia. It goes without saying that food is one of the major concerns for our daily life. Students in the Department of Food Management will learn about the entire food system from processing, distribution, food services, to general consumption by combining both scientific technologies such as food science and food engineering, with social-science based methodologies such as food economics, marketing and management. Our major objective is to produce future leaders of the food industry who are equipped with practical business knowledge gained through scientific experiment-oriented education and case method learning

Specializations Requirements


Once Core course requirements the National Commission on Higher Education (52 credits) and Harbel College common courses (18 credits) have been met, students then complete the major (68 credits) by specializing in the area where the degree is sought:
